House Hunting...The Search is OVER :)

6/21/10
Sooo, now that we're together in California, our next steps are wedding planning and house hunting. Not necessarily in that order, either :).

We've met with a realtor, got setup with a listing service and we're starting to weed out some houses we'd like to see. Translation: I have started printing listings and weeding out houses we'd like to see. Pete hasn't even looked at any of the ones I've printed just yet. So, whatever. He's going to look at them tonight come hell or highwater!

Anyway, we saw two homes on Saturday. We were out exploring neighborhoods and saw two open houses! One of which I fell in love with right away. LOVED it! And you'll see why.

After experimenting some with adding pages like this one, I've figured out that it's not as easy as it looks. I'm having a hard time keeping my pictures from getting all jumbled. So, in an effort to keep this neat, I'm going to add a separate page for each house we're really considering. It'll be titled with their addresses. Since you can add up to 10 pages, this shouldn't be a problem. But if you want to tell me what you think, please leave your comments on this page, just in case one of the houses you're commenting on gets 'out-scored'.

Pete and I went out with Kerri this past Saturday and we saw 9 houses! And, of the three that I'd posted as my favorites, all three have been eliminated! Esther looked very different to me the second time around; very dated and Kerri pointed out a few things that might hurt re-sell value. Pete never got to see Nadine; and someone else made an offer, so that one is off the list. And Sunnyoaks was nice, but we decided we really want a single family home, not a townhome. BUT we did find two others we like even more and we're going to go back and see our favorite on Tuesday, hopefully. This one seems perfect. It's a single family home, 4 BR, 2 BA with a beautiful backyard, complete with plum and cherry trees and jasmine, which smells amazing! It's 46 years old, but has been updated with a new kitchen and bathrooms. So, like I said, we're going to go back and see it again. Pete's thinking about making an offer! And, the house hunting pics/pages will be updated.
Thanks and have fun!

If you didn't read it elsewhere, someone made an offer on the house on Harriet, before we could get back to see it or get our 'stuff' together to make an offer. So, we were really disappointed. The listing agent said that she'd wait until that night (Tuesday) for our offer, but we couldn't get everything arranged by then, so we passed. LOTS of drama with house hunting this week. The house on Harriet got an offer, but the one on Nadine's offer might fall through, so it's back on the list :). We also looked at another house, on Berry Way that we really liked. Again, there was an offer on the table that fell through, so we might still be able to make an offer on one of our three favorites. The house on Harriet, also has a roof that's double the age the listing agent told us it was, and there's about $3,000 in termite damage that will have to be done prior to closing on it. So, those things would obviously hold us back. But we both really like the one on Berry Way and it's in a great location! And I think Kerri is taking Pete to see the one on Nadine this Saturday. So, stay tuned!

Looks like we may be making an offer tomorrow on the Sunny Vista house!! We have our pre-approval letter and Tracey and Kerri have called the listing agent and there are currently no offers on this property! So, we'd like to get ours in and possibly accepted before anyone else has a chance. The plan is that they're going to put our offer together, talking with both me and Pete. And then we'll all talk tonight about things, get everything together and they'll present the offer first thing tomorrow morning. The one part I don't like is that I've not seen the house yet, but I trust Pete implicitly and I've seen the pictures. I'm so excited! And nervous! Yesterday was stressful enough with work, but then Pete called and we had some drama over the pre-approval. They said his debt ratio was too high, which is kind of BS. And then, within an hour we had a pre-approval letter, so who knows.
So, if all goes well, we may be closing on our house the first or second week in August. Of course, I'll be back here in WV then, but with delays and such, it's entirely possible this might work out for the closing to be right about when I come back to CA. Hopefully... Wish us luck!!

We are so excited! After a counter offer from the owners, it looks like we'll be moving to Sunny Vista Drive, in San Jose, CA, sometime in August! Check out the Sunny Vista page for more details!

As many of you already know, we are officially homeowners! We closed on the Sunny Vista home on 8/12/10! We're not quite all moved in yet though; have to do the termite fumigation. But we're hoping to get completely out of the apartment by 8/24. Check my main blog page for more! So, I'll not be posting anything more to the House Hunting section, as the Search is really Over!!

  1. I'm not sure what happened to my formatting, but the '1200 Nadine Dr.' should have been down below the second set of pictures with the 'Campbell, CA'. Sorry! I may have to figure out a better way to do this.
